5 Fundamental Factors of a Unique Corporate Logo Design
Logo is the graphical representation of a brand and it basically creates a positive image of the company it represents. Remember that an insignia may not tell exactly what the company sells, but it should highlight the factors that make the company better than others. For instance, FedEx logo doesn’t tell you what the company does, but that hidden arrow tells you that the organization is moving forward. There are lots of other emblems such as Nike, Apple and AT&T that were created keeping the same principle in mind.
Various elements determine the effectiveness of an insignia such as design and color, but let’s find out the indispensible factors of corporate logo design.
Dimension– Generally insignias are designed in 2D format, but if you want to create something really unique and surprising, you can also design it in 3D. People seldom see a 3D logo and if you can create it successfully, they will immediately notice your company.
Symbols– Symbology helps people relate to a brand. If you use a meaningful symbol in the emblem and then use it in all the marketing materials, the symbol and brand becomes synonymous to consumers. They don’t even look at the company name, if they see the symbol on any product. Think about Nike. That swoosh is so famous, that people know whether it’s on a perfume bottle or a shoe, the product is made by Nike.
Typography– Each font has its own unique personality and with the help of a font you can establish the brand image of your business. Take a look at CNN and Dove emblem and you will realize what I mean. While the bold font of CNN reflects its power and global reach, the curly font of Dove insignia immediately appeals female consumers.
Contrast– Experienced artists know the importance of contrast in logo design. To give a corporate emblem a visually appealing look, you must maintain contrast ratio between graphics and text size, fonts and colors etc. You can achieve great contrast ratio by adding or reducing backlighting, translucency, texture and interaction.
Personalization– When there are multiple brands under a mother company, logo personalization helps you define the brand identity and creates a bond between mother and sister concerns. You can customize the symbol and color of the main corporate logo design to suit the need of sub brands. Not many companies have tried this idea so far, but according to most branding gurus, this is going to be the next big thing in branding.
